Arqiva is the UK's leading provider of transmission services for broadcasters, meeting the needs of the entire networks for ITV, Channel 4 and Five, together with most independent radio stations. With a heritage dating back to the start of ITV in 1955, the company has also played a leading role in the introduction of digital terrestrial television and radio in the UK, for which it has built national and local networks. More recent work work on mobile TV and digital switch-over maintains an established high profile in broadcast technology developments.

Arqiva also provides a comprehensive range of end-to-end media solutions for content and channel providers. About 150 full-time TV channels are uplinked from the company's main satellite 'teleport' near Winchester. In addition occasional feeds are provided globally at short notice to broadcasters requiring temporary connections for news, sport and special events. Arqiva has its own fleet of Outside Broadcast and Satellite Newsgathering vehicles, plus 'fly-away' terminals, with operational crews. A fully equipped digital Broadcast Media Centre is available for playout, presentation and studio production purposes.

The company also has divisions specialising in Wireless communications and support services for the Public Safety sector.

Prior to June 2005, Arqiva was known as NTL Broadcast. In January 2005 National Transcommunications Ltd (NTL Broadcast) was acquired from NTL Group by a consortium of investors led by Macquarie Communications Infrastructure Group (MCG), an Australian Stock Exchange listed investment fund.
